JigJam live in concert with an opening set by An Cuán! When virtuoso Irish playing jumps the pond running naked through the wide open fields of Bluegrass and Americana – JigJam is born.
This Offaly and Tipperary-born band has started the Irish invasion of Americana with a brand new band member from Glasgow injecting the magic of Scottish folk music. Founding members from Offaly Jamie McKeogh (Lead singer and guitar) and Daithi Melia (5 String Banjo and Dobro) were joined by Tipperary-born Gavin Strappe (Mandolin and Tenor Banjo) in 2016. This year they are joined by Glasgow native Danny Hunter (Fiddle) to make up this iGrass (Irish Bluegrass) quartet. Advance tickets are $25 (available online till 4 pm on 4/23) and $30 at the door. Youth 18 years and under receive free admission.
‘Foot stomping’, ‘high energy’ and lots of badass is what you’re in for when you see this musical powerhouse live in concert.
Described as ‘The best Irish band in bluegrass’ and ‘sparkling, infectious’ these lads have been hailed as ‘Ireland’s answer to New Grass Revival’
Bluegrass has its roots in Irish music and Irish immigration. iGrass and JigJam are what happens when the Irish find their prodigal son.
An Cuán
The Contemporary Irish duo An Cuán, Gaelic for “The Harbor,” consists of musicians Liam Slattery (guitar, vocals) and David Ochs (fiddle, vocals). These award-winning musicians bring a modern twist to both traditional and original Irish tunes, as well as inject Irish flavor to some popular folk and contemporary favorites. The lads met as children at O’Shea Irish Dance in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where their friendship grew alongside their skills as dancers and musicians, which has led to international competitive success and multiple international tours. The duo has performed under various names with other musicians, dancers, and touring companies over the years, including a residency at Raglan Road in Walt Disney World. Having composed original music since childhood, Liam and David are currently recording an original album showcasing their talents as multi-instrumentalists, adding bodhrán, bass, and piano into the mix.
