A Celebration of the Music of Kenny Baker

Kenny Baker (1926 – 2011) was one of the greatest influences on bluegrass fiddling to ever live. One of Bill Monroe’s Bluegrass Boys from 1957 to 1984, he served in the band more years than any other member, recorded many solo and duet albums showcasing his mastery of the fiddle, and wrote many compositions that have become standards in the bluegrass canon today.

For this first of its kind event in the Twin Cities, Minneapolis fiddler and Baker enthusiast AJ Srubas will gather some of Minnesota’s finest to showcase and celebrate Baker’s music and contributions to the genre. Featuring fiddlers Brian Christianson (formerly of The Mike Snyder Band), Eric Christopher (High 48s), Eric Mohring (Cafe Accordion), John Niemann (King Wilkie’s Dream), Lisa Fuglie (Monroe Crossing), Rachel Calvert (Barbaro), Robbi Podrug (King Wilkie’s Dream), Jillian Rae (Jillian Rae, Corpse Reviver), Tom Schaefer (Honky Tonk Jump), and AJ Srubas himself (Steam Machine), backed by an ace band featuring David Robinson on banjo (High 48s, Roe Family Singers, Steam Machine), Liz Ashworth on mandolin (LaPlant Road), Clint Birtzer on guitar (High 48s) and Rina Rossi on bass (Steam Machine), emcee’d by Adam Granger (A Prairie Home Companion), this will be a not to be missed gathering full of ripping breakdowns, swinging two steps, dazzling waltzes, and lush twin harmonies. Online tickets will be available till 12 AM on March 24th. Afterward, tickets will be available at the door for $20 unless this event is marked as Sold Out. Youth 18 years and under receive free admission at the door. (Just show up!)
