Ireland’s Ancient Gods
$175.00
The Gods beneath our feet.
Mythology – stories passed down from one generation to the next, giving a people a shared set of values to bond over, slowly but surely helping shape unique cultures all over the world. Many of the most famous legends – from the Epic of Gilgamesh to The Odyssey – survive to this day due to their written form, but it is the oral tradition that began it all. That oral tradition, however, is much frailer. In this class, we will dive into selected readings from the course text to examine Irish mythology – from its unique characteristics to its colorful characters, from its ancient roots to its modern and Christianized retellings.
Course text: Ireland’s Immortals: A History of the Gods of Irish Myth by Mark Williams.
