Celtic Opera: Wagner and the Arthurian tradition
Richard Wagner is a towering and controversial figure in the world of opera. We’ll examine his operas inspired by Arthurian legend – Tannhauser, Lohengrin and Parsifal as well as the Celtic tale of Tristan and Isolde. We’ll explore Wagner’s compositional style of “Gesamtkunstwerk” – total work of art – in which he masterfully synthesizes archetypal themes of love and redemption.
