Workshop: Essentials of Scottish Fiddling

April 19, 2020 @ 3:15 pm - 4:45 pm

$20.00
Scottish fiddle with Brandon Vance

This Scottish fiddle workshop is designed to introduce the basic characteristics of Scottish fiddling, including the Scots snap, birl, and the stylistic principles governing the strathspey and the traditional “MSR” or March, Strathspey and Reel set.  The aim is to help students not only learn new repertoire and skills, but to gain a greater understanding of the cultural and historical forces that have shaped the Scottish fiddling tradition.

During the Scottish fiddle workshop, tunes will be taught by ear, phrase-by-phrase, and transcriptions of the music will also be provided.  A recording device is highly recommended.

Brandon Vance – Scottish fiddle champion (Scotland’s Royal National Mod 2017 “Sutherland Cup” in Scottish Fiddle, U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion1999 and 2001). www.brandonvance.com

See Brandon in his band Beltane Boys on April 18.
