Twice Banjaxed is Derek Anderson (banjo) and Morien McBurnie (banjo, guitar). At 16 and 15 years old, they are the youngest performers in the Celtic Junction Fall Outdoor Concert Weekend. Growing up in the Celtic Junction community and studying Irish music from the Center for Irish Music, they are a pair that are forever stretching, exploring, pushing, playing, and learning. They love classic trad as well as the contemporary cutting edge. Beginning at ages 13 and14 years, they became known as the “banjo boys” at various Twin Cities farmers’ markets, brewpubs, and city streets where they were regularly heard busking.
Their musical influences run the gamut, but some of the most critical are playing as part of this concert series including Brian Miller (of Two Tap Trio), Todd Menton, Brother Dean Magraw, and Dáithí Sproule. Further afield, influences include Randy Gosa, We Banjo Three, Ten Strings And A Goat Skin, and Seán Kelliher.
Expect classic tunes and tunes with a twist!
