Comprised of over two dozen traditional tunes from Scotland and Ireland, The Road Home from Skye features original harp arrangements by Stephanie Claussen. Claussen cites the atmosphere of a stroll she took through Gleann Lichd in the Highlands as the underlying theme for the album. Tunes of welcome and farewell; jigs, reels and airs; tunes inspired by love and politics. Claussen treats each piece with her characteristic attention to melody and subtle but emotive dynamics. With open accompaniments and just enough “crunch” in the harmonies to keep things interesting, The Road Home from Skye aims to inspire a few tears and a whole lot of toe-tapping.
2018 US National Scottish Harp Champion Stephanie Claussen invites audiences to explore new locales and eras through her music. Influenced by her love of fairy tales, J.R.R. Tolkien, and the world music section at her local library, she performs a unique mixture of Scottish tunes, J.S. Bach, and anything rich in medieval or French harmonies. Claussen performs solo and with various ensembles throughout the Upper Midwest.
“With the brick wall of the coffee shop providing a backdrop, it was easy to forget you were sitting in a store on Johnson Street and imagine yourself listening to a bard in an old Scottish castle (without the cold, drafty air). Many audience members in the packed room listened with their eyes closed.” –Northeaster, 2018
