Gretchen, age 83 of Minneapolis passed away on January 3, 2022 after a prolonged struggle with Alzheimer’s. Gretchen will remain in our hearts forever. She is survived by her son Richard Fitzgerald and her sister Suzanne Lang as well as countless loving family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her former husband Gerald Fitzgerald, son Timothy Fitzgerald, daughter Kathleen Fitzgerald, partner Victor Funfar and her brother Robert Hollenbeck. Gretchen was a devoted mother, adoring partner and cherished friend to many. She loved traveling, gardening, poetry, socializing and connecting with her beloved Irish heritage through music, prayer and the Irish community. Gretchen volunteered at the Irish Fair of Minnesota for many years and was a loyal champion of (and volunteer at) Vail Place Hopkins Clubhouse, a community resource center. Special thanks to the staff at the Wealshire of Bloomington, for taking loving care of her for the past few years. Memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or The Center for Irish Music.
